The Puget Sound Writing Consortium is a group of teacher trainers influenced by these core beliefs: teachers who write are the best teachers of writing and teachers are the best teachers of teachers. We know that writing, reading, and discussion are organically intertwined and work together in the classroom. Experience and research shows us that higher order thinking is made visible through writing and speaking.
Our team of trainers is experienced, professional, and well-versed in literacy. All of us have all worked together for years through the Writing Project at the University of Washington. Many have direct experience with the development and assessment of Common Core and the SBA, as well as having worked on the WASL, HSPE, and MSP. Our trainers have all spent years in the classroom and know what it means to be a teacher; we are also well-versed in writing pedagogy and research-based curriculum. Many of us are published authors in many genres from young adult fiction to poetry, biography to literacy instruction. Our board includes the former head of Language Arts for Washington State and the project leader for the Smarter Balanced performance assessment.
We are also writers and love sharing our craft.
We look forward to helping your school or district with professional development.
